Dr Collins lives in Toowoomba with his wife and three children. His family made the decision to relocate to regional Queensland, having spent his own formative years in rural and remote Queensland, including Mt Isa, the Burdekin and Townsville.
He initially started his medical training as a Rural Generalist, working at Ipswich Hospital for two years, before transitioning to training as a physician, and ultimately subspecialising in haematology.
With the aim of setting up a comprehensive haematology service operated by a specialist residing in Toowoomba, Dr Collins established a private haematology practice in 2017 at St Andrew's Hospital. The service has continued to expand since that time.
